Cuttyhunk Island Artists' Residency accepts visual artists working in any medium with exceptional quality of work and who show profound commitment to their practice. 

 

We are pleased to announce that we will be awarding THREE FULL SCHOLARSHIPS in 2019. Partial scholarships are also available. A full scholarship includes tuition, housing, all meals, and a round-trip ferry ticket to Cuttyhunk from New Bedford, MA. All participants will need to provide for their own transportation to and from New Bedford. See scholarships below.

  • Open Merit Scholarship is given to an artist working in any medium who exhibits exceptional quality of work. Open to all applicants.

  • Wellspring Fellowship is given to an artist who exhibits exceptional quality of work and is also a parent.  Artists with at least one child under the age of 18 are eligible.

  • NYAA Alumni Merit Scholarship is given to  an alumnus of the New York Academy of Art who exhibits exceptional quality of work. 

  • Partial Scholarships are also merit-based and open to all applicants. Partial scholarship amounts vary year to year depending on available funds.

 

Merit Scholarships are awarded to applicants with outstanding quality of work, who exhibit an exceptionally strong sense of clarity in the direction of their work, and who demonstrate a profound commitment to making art their career.

 

What you need to apply:

 

-2D/3D artists submit up to 8 work samples. 

 

-Time based artists submit up to 15 minutes of video.

 

-All applicants submit an artist CV.

Spring 2019

Landscape Oil Painting

The Landscape Oil Painting Workshop with Suzanne Brooker is open to all levels of painters, novice to advanced. There is no fee to apply. However, space is limited to just thirteen participants. Our selection committee is looking for artists who exemplify a profound commitment to their practice and an eagerness to improve their oil painting technique as a vehicle for self expression.

Begin your application by clicking on the "Submit" button. You will be asked to create an account with Submittable which will allow you to upload images of your work and fill out a short application. We ask that you submit a minimum of 3 images of your work, a maximum of 8. Work samples: preferably oil paintings, jpg format. (Minimum file size: 720 pixels or 10 inches on the shortest side at 72 dpi. Larger files are accepted.)

Admissions decisions will be sent out via email by February 15th, followed by travel information to Cuttyhunk Island, how to prepare, a materials list, the schedule for the week, and payment information. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to email us at cuttyhunkartists@gmail.com.
